List Of World Leaders Banned From Attending Queen Elizabeth II’s Funeral
World leaders on Monday attended the funeral of the late Queen of England, Elizabeth II in London.
The funeral of Queen Elizabeth II which took place at Westminster Abbey had drawn in around 500 foreign dignitaries.
Naija News reports that leaders from around the world, including members of the Commonwealth, Heads of State, Governors-General, Prime Ministers, and foreign royal families attended the historic event.
The Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, on Monday represented President Muhammadu Buhari who is in New York, USA to participate in the 77th United Nations general assembly (UNGA).
The President of the United State of America, Joe Biden was in attendance at the funeral.
However, according to Daily Express, three countries and their leaders were reportedly barred from attending the late Queen’s funeral in London on Monday.
The countries that were denied access to the historic event includes:
1. Russia (Vladimir Putin)
2. Belarus (Aleksandr Lukashenko)
3. Myanmar (Myint Swe)
For Iran, it was only allowed to be represented at the occasion on an ambassadorial level.
Daily Express noted that Iran Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei continues to have sour relations with the United Kingdom.
While the President of Russia was reportedly hindered from attending the event due to the invasion of Ukraine by his troops.
Belarus leader, Alexander Lukashenko was snubbed due to his friendship with Russian president Putin.
On the part of Myanmar, their Military chiefs have been accused by the United Nations of “depraved” acts of violence against opposition democracy activists.
