Adamawa APC Chairman, Bilal Resigns

The chairman of the Adamawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ibrahim Bilal, has resigned from his position, Naija News reports.

The party chieftain’s action was confirmed in a statement signed and made available to newsmen on Friday by APC National Vice Chairman, Salihu Mustapha.

Mustapha noted in the terse statement that Bilal’s deputy, Samaila Tadawus, will take over as the acting chairman pending the ratification by the APC national working committee.

It could be recalled that Bilal was removed from office last month by 25 members of the state committee over alleged offences ranging from alleged misconduct, corruption, and dereliction of duty.

The party chieftains moves to impeach Bilal after a vote of no confidence was passed on him on the basis of gross misconduct.

Naija News understands that Bilal was subsequently reinstated following a court ruling.

Reports, however, emerging today confirmed that Bilal has dropped the chairmanship title.

Bilal has remained mum over his purported resignation and neither returned calls nor text messages sent to his phone, The PUNCH reports.

The publicity secretary of the state chapter of the APC, Mohammed Abdullahi, who was contacted by newsmen on Friday, confirmed Bilal’s resignation to newsmen in Yola.

He said the news about the alleged resignation of the party’s chairman was true.

A resignation letter, allegedly written by Bilal, on 13th September, and addressed to the National Chairman of the APC, through the North-East zonal vice chairman of the APC, said, ”While the APC constitution allows me to occupy the office (party chairman post) until 2026, I will be grateful if I could cease from becoming the chairman of the party immediately.”

Bilal in the letter also apologised for his sudden resignation, while expressing his unalloyed commitment to the ideals of the party.
