Alleged Kidney Harvest: Ekweremadu Prays Court To Dismiss Ukpo’s Plea On Bio-data Release

Embattled former deputy president of the Nigerian Senate, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, have asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss the suit accusing them of human organ harvesting.

Naija News recalls that the said victim of the alleged kidney donor saga, David Ukpo, had through his lawyer, Bamidele Igbinedion, filed a motion on notice, urging Justice Inyang Ekwo to set aside the orders, directing some agencies of government and banks to release his biodata to Ekweremadu and his wife.

However, at the court proceedings today (Tuesday), Ekweremadu said Ukpo has no basis to feel intimidated in releasing his visa application information and his bank account opening package except if he had compromised his date of birth.

In a counter affidavit deposed to by Bright Ekweremadu, immediate younger brother of the detained senator in London, Ekweremadu denied the allegations that he demanded Ukpo’s bio-data.

Ekweremadu explained that against other claims, what the Federal High Court ordered to be released to the London court was Ukpo’s bank account opening package and the information supplied in his visa application request.

He added that based on the court’s July 1, 2022, order, the required documents have since been transmitted to two different courts in the United Kingdom. Ekweremadu maintained that it was too late in the day for Ukpo to seek reversal of a valid order that had been executed to determine his real age only.

He, therefore, prayed the court to dismiss the suit for being frivolous, abuse of court and lacking merit, having been overtaken by event.

On his part, at the court proceedings today, Ukpo’s lawyer, Ojonugwa Oguche, prayed the court to adjourn the matter for him to react to the counter affidavit.

Naija News understands that Ekweremadu was represented at the court by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria SAN, Eyitayo Fatigun.

After hearing from both sides, the court granted the request to adjourn the case and fixed September 20 for further hearing by Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo.
