Bullying: Police Dispatch Officers To Lead British School

A family in Ebonyi State is seeking justice over the death of their beloved 17-year-old girl allegedly killed by a security operative.

It was gathered that the young girl was at the construction site of Ebonyi International Airport, at Onueke, in the Ezza South Local Government Area (LGA) of the state seeking menial jobs to fend for her family when she was confronted by a security man.

Upon her arrival at the site, the victim who is identified as Nwuka Nwafor was reportedly ordered by one of the security men on the site, to pick up some corn husk but she refused to act as ordered.

A worker at the site who spoke on condition of anonymity to The PUNCH on the matter explained that the security man, Chukwuma Anyigor (aka Ite Igwe) was angered by the girl’s action and hence decided to punish her.

Anyigor reportedly picked up an object and hit Nwafor on the head severally until she fainted.

“On that sorrowful day, Nwuka and one of her friends were moving from one section of the airport to another in search of work until when they encountered Anyigor, who particularly directed the deceased to pack the waste which was dumped by someone else,” the source explained.

He added: “But the girl, who could not figure out the reason behind such instruction refused to obey the command and Anyigor, who could not control his anger, started to beat the girl until she fainted.”

Lamenting the situation, the deceased’s elder brother, Sunday Nwafor, said Nwuka was rushed to the General Hospital, Onueke, and later to the Alex Ekwueme University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, where she was confirmed dead by medical doctors.

Also expressing her sorrow, another of Nwuka’s siblings, Ekene Nwafor on behalf of the family, called on the authorities to bring the suspect to justice.

He said: “It actually happened on August 29. My sister did not commit any offence unless it has become an offence to fend for oneself. So, Nwuka died struggling to survive and she deserves justice. As a family, we demand for justice.”

The victim, Naija News learnt was a Senior Secondary School (class one) pupil at Izo High School, in the LGA.

Reports said she usually visits construction sites during the weekends and holidays to get some jobs to help herself and her family.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, SP Chris Anyanwu who was reportedly reached on the phone told newsmen that the matter had not been officially brought to his table.

However, the accused, Naija News learnt has been arrested and later handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department at the Ebonyi State Police Command, Abakaliki.
