Naija News reports that Liz was announced by a Conservative returning officer after securing 81,326 votes, and her main contender, Rishi Sunak polled 60,399 votes.

In a short victory speech at the announcement in a central London convention hall, Truss said it was an “honour” to be elected after undergoing “one of the longest job interviews”

According to the Conservative Party, the ballots closed on Friday afternoon after over 600 questions were answered by all the candidates.

Former Chief Minister of Finance, Sunak (42) and Truss were the finalists after a series of voting.

His successor will follow him and be asked to form a government.
