A few days away from the September 28, 2022, official commencement date for the commencement of campaigns for the 2023 elections, possible reasons have emerged on why the All Progressives Congress (APC) is yet to unveil its presidential campaign council.

It is understood that the conflict of interest among power brokers and stakeholders in the party on those who should be part of the council is largely responsible for the delay.

Naija News further gathered that the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu is wary of having saboteurs within the council knowing fully well that the APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu had preferred Senate President Ahmad Lawan to emerge flagbearer but things didn’t work out for him.

Tinubu and his loyalists are trying to avoid a hijack of the process.

Speaking specifically, the source who spoke to Dailytrust on the delay was quoted yesterday to have cited “unabated crisis, discordant tunes, selfishness and lack of internal democracy” in the APC as major reasons for the delay.

According to the source, “In the composition of the major campaign council, they don’t want those people who fought against Oshiomhole to be part of the campaign council now.

“And Tinubu knows quite well that Adamu, the APC’s national chairman, was never in his support. He was rooting for Senate President, Ahmad Lawan. All those ones are still there, that is why it is not easy for them to constitute the national campaign council.”

He added, “So unabated crisis, discordant tunes, selfishness and lack of internal democracy are specific factors militating or constituting the delay. In fact, some of those who call themselves the big guys are trying to hijack the process, hence the delay.”

Naija News recalls Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, and the Minister of State for Labour, Festus Keyamo, have been named director general and spokesman respectively for the campaign council but other members of the team are yet to be unveiled.
