Court Acquits Ex-Plateau Governor, Jang Of N6bn Fraud Charges

Heavily armed personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Security (DSS) have been noticed at the premises of the Plateau State High Court in Jos, the state capital on Friday.

Reports reaching Naija News at the moment revealed that the security operatives were mounted at every sensitive point of the court as the presiding judge, Justice Christy Dabup is expected to rule on an alleged fraudulence suit involving former Governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang.

It could be recalled that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had years ago accused Jang of misappropriating public funds totalling N6.3bn.

After several hearings, Justice Dabup scheduled the ruling for September 2, 2022. Ahead of the arrival of the court judge and scheduled time which is 9 am, security operatives according to The PUNCH, arrived at the venue as early as 6 am today.

The platform confirmed that those driving into the court premises as well as those walking to the area were stopped and questioned by security officers before they were allowed in, while others were refused entry.

One of the security personnel who gave attention to journalists reportedly said: “Today is not an ordinary day for us. We are here on special duty at the court and that is why you can see many of us around. That is what I can tell you for now.”

Naija News understands that the said suit has lingered for over four years.

The case file claimed that Jang and a former cashier in the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Yusuf Pam, did away with the sum of N6.3bn before they vacated office in 2015, an allegation which they denied.

However, despite the tension at the court today, supporters of the former governor who are eager to hear the outcome of the judgment were on the ground waiting in anticipation of a favourable outcome, the report said.
