Presidency Schools Atiku After He Called Out Buhari About A Bill Passed By The National Assembly
The presidency has replied to a call out by the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar over a bill recently passed by the National Assembly.
Naija News reports both chambers of the National Assembly in July passed the start-up bill which seeks to create a conducive environment for technological startups to thrive in the country.
Atiku in a Twitter post on Monday, 29th August while reacting to the development, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sign the bill into law as fast as possible.
He also commended the National Assembly for passing the bill.
Atiku wrote in part: “I commend the house and senate for their bipartisan efforts in passing the Nigeria startup bill, and I call upon the president to sign the bill into law.
“The Nigerian start-up space is one of the largest in Africa, and Nigeria has become a key destination on our continent for Tech talent, with the ICT sub-sector contributing approximately 18.44% of Nigeria’s GDP as of the end of Q2 in 2022.”
I commend the @HouseNGR and @NGRSenate for their bipartisan efforts in passing the Nigeria Startup Bill, and I call upon the President to sign the Bill into law.

However, in a quick reply, the presidency told the former Vice President that Buhari can only sign the bill after it is transmitted by the National Assembly.
Atiku was also told in a response to his tweet by the presidency that the bill originated from the executive and will be one of President Buhari’s major legacies.
“The president can only sign the bill AFTER it has been transmitted from the national assembly.
“It is worth noting that #NigeriaStartupBill is an executive bill, championed by the presidency and ministry of communications and, when assented to, will be one of President Buhari’s major legacies,” the presidency tweeted in response.
