French professional footballer and Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema was on Thursday named UEFA Player of the Year.

Naija News reports that Best Player (individual award) was announced today in Istanbul, Turkey, as the European football governing body made draws for the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League group stage.

Benzema beats the likes of Thibaut Courtois and Manchester City forward, Kevin De Bruyne to emerge the winner of the men’s award category.

28-year-old Alexia Putellas, playing as a midfielder for Primera División club Barcelona, swoop the award for the women’s category.

Transfer: Chelsea’s Havertz Speaks On Replacing Lewandowski At Bayern Munich

The rumours of replacing Polish professional footballer, Robert Lewandowski at Bayern Munich has been played down by Chelsea attacking midfielder, Kai Havertz.

Naija News reports that Lewandowski left the Bundesliga side barely a month ago to join Spanish giants, Barcelona.

The 33-year-old, who now wears Barca’s number 9 shirt, penned a €50 million (£42m/$51m) transfer deal with the Catalans from Munich.

There have been speculations since then linking Havertz with a move to Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich.

It was assumed in some quarters that Havertz will be a perfect replacement for Lewandowski at Munich.

Reacting to the speculations, however, the 23-year-old Germany international said he was not aware of any deal.

Harvertz categorically ruled out any possibility of leaving Chelsea this summer.

According to him, he also heard of the rumours on Instagram.
