2023 Election Not About Religion, Tribe ― Peter Obi

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi on Monday said the 2023 election is not about religion or tribe.

The former Governor of Anambra State said the forthcoming electoral process is about character and competence in leadership.

Obi stated this on Monday at the Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference, (NBA-AGC).

The presidential candidate who stated that Nigeria is in a mess added that the country got there because of the accumulative effect of bad leadership.

Obi called for a bold transition of the country from a secured state to a highly secured state.

PDP Crisis: ‘Wike Doesn’t Want To Be Minister, Not Fighting For Himself’

Loyalists of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, have debunked reports of any division in the governor’s camp.
Reports had earlier emerged claiming that many loyalists of Wike have begun to dump the camp of the Rivers State

Governor over his oppressive style and his opposition to the presidential ambition of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

A source had told Vanguard: “What I know is that most of Wike’s allies are distancing themselves from him, especially PDP politicians from Rivers, are not aligning themselves with his actions.

”That is the level he is now. All his latest actions are just bravado. How he is going to sustain it, I do not know for now.”

But firing back, allies of the Rivers State Governor have dismissed speculations of a major crack within their ranks.

Gowon Sends Message To Nigerians Ahead Of 2023 Elections

Former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd) has advised Nigerians to vote for a presidential candidate that would help achieve a peaceful and prosperous nation.

The former Nigerian leader expressed confidence that the 2023 presidential election will hold, adding that happenings in the political scene now are the usual election fever.

Gowon made the call at the weekend during the launch of the book, “Blueprint for National Retrieval”, written by Elder Ejodame Emmanuel in Abuja.

Represented by Philip Salau, the elder statesman called on the electorate to vote for a credible candidate that will lead the nation to peace and restoration.

He also urged Nigerians to stop lamentation about the possibility of the elections not holding, saying that the country would come out stronger after the elections.

Wike’s Allies Reportedly Abandoning Him, Angry Over Oppressive Style

Reports have emerged claiming that some allies of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State have started abandoning his camp over his alleged oppressive leadership style.

It was gathered that some of his allies who left his camp have had their properties shut down by security operatives.

Some of Wike’s former allies, allegedly led by former Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives, Austin Opara, including Sen Lee Maeba and former Governor Celestine Omehia, are said to have dumped him.

Others are Jones Ogbonda, former Rivers Assembly member; Ikechi Chinda; former PDP Chairman, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area and Mr. Chinyere Igwe.

2023: Deji Adeyanju Reacts As Obasanjo Denies Endorsing Tinubu

Political activist, Deji Adeyanju has reacted as former President Olusegun Obasanjo denied endorsing the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.

Naija News recalls that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, had claimed that what transpired during the meeting between Obasanjo and Tinubu was a sign of victory for Tinubu in 2023.

However, Obasanjo, in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, on Saturday, debunked endorsing the APC presidential candidate.

While expressing his displeasure, the former president said the statement credited to him is fake and that the people behind the report are not helpful to the candidate.

Obasanjo expressed dissatisfaction with what he described as an unauthorised report of the discussion at the closed doors meeting he held with Tinubu.

In a tweet via his Twitter handle over the weekend, Adeyanju said Obasanjo denied supporting Tinubu because he is already supporting the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Ogun 2023: Sowunmi Expresses Optimism About Being Declared As PDP Guber Candidate

The factional governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Segun Sowunmi has expressed confidence that he would emerge as the authentic candidate of the party.

Naija News reports that in May, Sowunmi and Ladi Adebutu were declared winners in parallel governorship primary elections held in the state.

Displeased with the outcome, Sowunmi filed a suit against the Ogun PDP over the governorship election.

In the suit, he asked the appeal court to dissolve the executive committee of Ogun PDP on the premise that the state executive was biased by obtaining the form for Ladi Adebutu.

In an interview with Naija News on Friday, Sowunmi expressed optimism that the issue would be settled and he will emerge victorious.

He added that if the outcome of the case favours Adebutu, he would congratulate him, wish him the best of luck and move on.

Former World Bank vice president, Arunma Oteh has opened up on the reason she decided to support Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Oteh explained via a series of tweets on Sunday that she could not remain apolitical due to Nigeria’s economic situation.

She stated further that she has worked with Obi and could categorically state that he stands out.

‘Wike Lule’- Arise TV Chairman, Nduka Obaigbena Mocks Gov Wike

A video making the rounds on social media has shown media mogul, Nduka Obaigbena at a gathering with Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal happily taunting Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

Naija News recalls that Wike and Tambuwal have been at loggerheads after the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Primaries which produced Atiku Abubakar as the party’s flag bearer.

Wike’s grievance against Tambuwal has been that the Sokoto state governor who was his friend worked against him to ensure Atiku secured the party’s presidential ticket.

Tambuwal who was also in the race for the PDP presidential candidate had stepped down and asked the delegates who were supporting him to give their votes to Atiku and not Wike who was also in the race for the party’s presidential ticket.

In the video, Obaigbena happily chants ‘Wike Lule’ which translates to Wike has fallen on the ground or has been defeated.

Yoruba Elders, Tinubu Supporters Protest Over Muslim-Muslim Ticket

Some Yoruba elders and supporters of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu have rejected the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the party.

The supporters on Monday took to the streets of Lagos calling for a Christian to be picked as the Vice Presidential candidate of the party.

The protesters under the aegis of Coalition of APC Stakeholders Network and Southwest Supporters of Tinubu started the protest from Shoprite Ikeja to the State House Alausa.

The group’s President-General, Arokoyo Samuel, while speaking during the protest, described the selection of the former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima as APC’s vice presidential candidate as a disregard for Nigeria’s diversity.

Samuel, speaking on the presidential ambition of Tinubu, described him as a political colossus and astute political strategist who has successfully built an enviable foundation for APC.

PDP Governors Divided As Atiku’s Camp May Ignore Wike, Announce Campaign C’ttee

As the feud between Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, lingers, reports have emerged claiming that Atiku may go ahead to name his campaign committee.

Recall that Atiku had appointed a seven-man team, led by Governor Fintiri of Adamawa State, to hold discussions with Wike’s team, led by former Ondo State governor, Olusegun Mimiko.

The two camps met in Port-Harcourt over the weekend for their inaugural meeting.

Following the perceived stalemate of the meeting, Vanguard reports that the party’s candidate may call the bluff of the governor and announce members of the Presidential Council Committee.

A source familiar with the frosty relationship between the two PDP leaders disclosed that the two camps have failed to shift grounds, a situation that may affect the reconciliation.

2023: Ohanaeze Reveals Date To Choose Among Tinubu, Atiku And Obi

The apex Igbo socio-political organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo is set to decide on the candidate the group will support during the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria.

Naija News gathered that the decision will be confirmed during the 2022 Igbo Day celebration on September 29 in Aba, Abia State.

According to a statement by the Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, sons, daughters and leaders from the seven Igbo-speaking states are expected at the event.

A lawmaker elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at the weekend, said the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi would be a threat to the presidential ambition of Bola Tinubu.

The lawmaker, who spoke on condition of anonymity with Sun, said Obi has gained great acceptance from Churches and youths in the country.

He further stated that if the surging popularity of Obi does not dwindle APC may not win Lagos State.

According to the lawmaker, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, might also lose the South-East and South-South to Obi.

2023: Aggrieved APC Presidential Aspirants, Senators Vow To Punish Party

Some aggrieved presidential aspirants and senators who lost their tickets in the All Progressives Congress (APC) have vowed to punish the ruling party in 2023.

The aggrieved members accused the presidential candidate of the party, Bola Tinubu and the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu of isolating stakeholders of the party.

A northern senator who spoke with Sun alleged that Adamu who was supported by lawmakers when governors in the party were against him, eventually betrayed them during the primaries.

According to the lawmaker, Adamu runs APC, “like a sole administrator and paramount ruler,” who does not accommodate superior views from members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

The lawmaker further stated that Tinubu since his emergence as the party’s flagbearer has refused to reach out to aggrieved presidential aspirants.

Wike Insists On Ayu’s Sack, Gets Support Of Seven Governors

The camp of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has made two demands to settle the lingering crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Governor Wike’s camp, in its demand to the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar, insisted on the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.

The call has received support from seven PDP governors, which include Seyi Makinde, Bala Mohammed, Okezie Ikpeazu, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Samuel Ortom, and two others.

A source disclosed that they have also accepted to be part of the party’s presidential campaign, even though Wike is not interested in the DG of the campaign.

According to the source, the camp demanded to build confidence between the North and the South.
