A video showing the moment members of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) shut down the Transmission Company of Nigeria Abuja station as they commenced an indefinite industrial action today, August 17, has surfaced on social media.

Naija News understands that the electrical workers were riled over the neglect of their welfare, with the NUEE directing its members to picket offices of TCN on Tuesday after which a strike action will begin.

The workers on Wednesday afternoon, August 17, were seen shutting down power stations in Abuja as they were chanting solidarity song in a video clip.

The union also shuts down the Kaduna regional headquarters of the TCN in line with the directive of the union’s national leadership.

Reacting to the incident, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) said that it is currently experiencing an interruption of power supply.

The statement reads, “Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) wishes to inform its distinguished customers that the interruption of the power supply being experienced across its franchise is due to the ongoing industrial strike issues between the National Union of Electricity Employees(NUEE) and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

Thank you for your patience and understanding”
