2023: Oyinlola Tipped To Be PDP Campaign Council DG

Barring any last-minute politicking, former Governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, will be named as the Director-General of the presidential campaign council of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Naija News understands that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State was earlier tipped for the role before he was dropped over his closeness to his Rivers counterpart, Nyesom Wike.

In a chat with Vanguard, a PDP chieftain said the South West does not need the Director General appointment, saying that the holder of the position is just an appointee.

He disclosed that the region only needs the position of the National Chairman because he is the chairman of the campaign council.

The PDP leader, however, said if the PDP Presidental candidate, Atiku Abubakar, does not respect the South-West, he will lose massively in the region.

He said: “I stand by what I said, if Atiku does not respect the South-West, he will lose massively. What is D-G? What do we want to do with the D-G? We don’t want their D-G position.

“We want the National Chairman because he is the chairman of the campaign. The D-G is just an appointee.

“I heard they want to make Oyinlola chairman of the campaign but I will oppose them, I will fight them and I will mobilize the Yoruba people to back out from the campaign. They will be surprised.”

PDP Crisis: Wike Has Right To Be Hurt, Atiku Should Listen To Him – Makarfi

Meanwhile, a former PDP National Chairman, Ahmed Makarfi, has advised his party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to make peace with Governor Wike.

He stated that Wike has the right to be hurt by Atiku’s decision to pick Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as his running mate.

The former Kaduna State governor told The Guardian that it was in a bid to avoid the misgivings of 2019 that Atiku decided to consult widely.

According to him, the idea of setting consultative committees did not bind the candidate to the recommendations of the committees.

He urged Wike and other aggrieved members of the party to recognise the fact that political power comes from God, adding, “a decision is never taken on behalf of a candidate, you can only advice a candidate.”
