The camp of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has insisted that the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Iyorchia Ayu, must resign from his position.

The loyalists of Governor Wike in their call for reconciliation in the party also asked to choose Ayu’s successor.

The supporters made these demands ahead of the meeting of a six-man committee comprising representatives from the camps of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and Wike.

A former member of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) said Atiku ensuring that Ayu is removed would show that he keeps to the agreement of inclusiveness.

He further stated that the PDP National Chairman has betrayed the confidence of Governor Wike.

The source, who spoke with ThisDay on condition of anonymity, said Wike would have won the presidential primary of the party if not for treachery.

He called on the party to present Wike’s camp the slot of Ayu’s successor because of what they would be bringing onboard ahead of the 2023 race.

The source said, “By ensuring the removal of Ayu, Atiku can be said to have shown that he can keep to the agreement of inclusiveness, trust and avoid any victimisation of the supporters of the Rivers State governor.

“Dr Iyorchia Ayu has betrayed the confidence of the Rivers State governor, Wike.

“Nigerians know that Wike would have won the ticket, but for treachery. He lost the presidential ticket and the chances of becoming the running mate to the presidential candidate due to treachery.

“Wike has lost twice. He wants to be a stakeholder in the presidential campaign. So, we want the office of the national chairman, because of what we will be bringing on board. Wike has a lot to bring on board. He has capacity.”
