Ahead of the 2023 election, massive defection has hit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State.

Naija News reports that no fewer than 616 members on Saturday, dumped the opposition party for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Dukku Local Government Area of the state.

According to DAILY POST, the new members which include women and youth leaders from different wards within the local government area were led into APC by an ex-chieftain of PDP, Kwairanga Dukku, stressing that their decision was based on the good and purpose-driven leadership style of Governor, Inuwa Yahaya.

A former member of the PDP Elders’ Forum, Bappah Maru, also stated said the efforts of the present administration in the provision of potable water in the area convinced them to join APC.

Umaru claimed that they joined the ruling party because they valued the governor’s people-centred programs for enhancing public welfare.

While welcoming the new members, Govenor Inuwa Yahaya, represented by the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Muhammad Magaji, said the APC-led state government had entrenched good governance.

He argued that the large number of people joining APC showed that their chances in the 2023 election is brighter.

He said: ”With the calibre of defectors received in Dukku LGA, the APC in Gombe has been further fortified and this means that our chances in 2023 are getting brighter.”

The APC Vice Chairman in Dukku LGA, Yahya Kole, lauded Yahaya for delivering on his mandate to transform the state.

He said: ”This is why APC has become a party that everyone wants to join and we will keep receiving new members.”
