2023: How Wike Saved PDP From Destruction - Mimiko

Former Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko has revealed how Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State saved the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from destruction.

He stated that the Rivers governor rescued the PDP and fought some forces that tried to destroy the opposition party in the last seven years.

Mimiko, made this known on Wednesday at the flag-off ceremony for the construction of the Azikiwe -Iloabuchi Road in Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Mimiko said: “Beyond the self-evident physical transformation, you (Wike) have stood as a bulwark against those sworn to emasculate the main opposition party, all in their bid to force a one-party State down the throats of Nigerians.

“You were at one point virtually a one-man countervailing force, defending and protecting our dear PDP. You have also, through bold legal challenges, deepened the national consciousness on the defects in the running of our defective federal system.”

Speaking further, the former Ondo governor said the PDP needs Wike for its rescue mission from the shackles of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mimiko asserted that the Rivers governor is positioned and favoured to play a major role in ensuring that the PDP wins the 2023 presidential poll.

He said: “Your Excellency, our Party, the PDP, a Party for which you have laboured so much, seems saddled with the historical duty of forging this unity, a unity premised on truth, equity, and justice, a unity upon which rescuing Nigeria from the far from the satisfactory performance of the past seven years will be built.

“It is a mission that must be accomplished. A mission for which you are specially positioned and favoured to play a major role. A mission that must be subscribed to by all lovers of our country.

Mimiko’s comment came amid speculations that Wike may dump the PDP following a fallout with the party after its presidential primary.

Recall that the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, had chosen Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as his running mate instead of the Rivers governor.
