The Executive Secretary, Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA,) Dr Saleh Jili, has stated that heavy downpour has killed three including a four-year-old girl, injured one and displaced 495 persons at Ajingi Local Government Area of Kano State.

Dr Jili made the statement on Monday during a condolence visit to the families of the deceased and presentation of relief items.

According to him, they were at Ajingi to commiserate with the victims, on behalf of the state government under the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

He described the incident that occurred after a heavy rainfall on Aug.3 and Aug.4, where 495 houses were destroyed and three lives lost as unfortunate.

He listed the affected areas to include Toranke, Kara Malama,Chuna and Balare in Ajingi Local Government Area.

The relief items include rice, maize, cement, roofing sheets, nails, cooking oil, pillows, beans and mattresses among others.

“The team will hand over the relief items to the chairman relief and emergency committee of Ajingi local government, for distribution to the families of the deceased and injured, pending the submission of damage assessment by personnel deployed to the area, for appropriate action by the state government,” he said.

Dr Jili advised residents to always clear their drainages and called on residents close to the river and ponds in the state to vacate for now or report to SEMA office for possible assistance.

The Vice Chairman Ajingi Local Government, Alhaji Sa’ad Ibrahim-Toranke while speaking at the occasion, commended the state government and agency for the kind gesture.

He said, “we are happy for the gesture and it came at the right time noting that it will go a long way in ameliorating the present hard economically situation the victims were passing through.”
