1. Details Of National Security Council Meeting Emerge

The details of the meeting of the National Security Council meeting presided by President Muhammadu Buhari have emerged.

Naija News earlier reported that the meeting took place on Thursday inside the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Briefing State House correspondents after the meeting, the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (retd), said the Federal Government would implement new strategies to address the worsening insecurity in the nation.

He stated that the recent terrorist attacks across the country have turned the citizens to seek self-help and are fuelling fears among Nigerians.

Monguno disclosed that the President is aware of the security challenges facing the country and he is doing his best to remedy the problems.

The NSA said that fighting the sort of insecurity facing the country can only be successful when it is confronted with the ‘whole of society’ approach.

He, however, cautioned the media against giving wide publicity to the terrorists and urged the citizens to provide the security, intelligence and armed agencies with useful information.

2. BBC, Daily Trust Will Be Sanctioned For Glorifying Terrorists – FG

President Muhammadu Buhari-led government on Thursday said the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and Daily Trust will be sanctioned over their documentaries on terrorism and banditry in Nigeria.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed while speaking in Abuja accused BBC of showing the faces of terrorists as if they are Nollywood stars.

According to the minister, the news platforms would not get away with the interviews with terrorists.

Mohammad further stated that the appropriate sanctions will be meted to the platforms.

The minister said, “Let me assure you, they will not get away with this naked glorification of terrorism and banditry in Nigeria,” Mohammad said.

3. “I know What I Want In Life” – Umahi Rejects Appointment From President Buhari

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Austin Umahi who is also the immediate younger brother to Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, has rejected an appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Umahi said he believes the job is not for him or someone of his social status and urged any interested person to contact the Ebonyi Governor for the job.

He argued that the appointment should have gone to job seekers or retired civil servants.

Naija News reports President Buhari appointed Umahi as the Secretary of Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission(RMAFC) but in a statement made available to newsmen in Abakaliki, the politician disclosed that he has rejected the appointment.

Umahi made his stand known while reacting to the congratulatory messages that have been coming his way following the announcement of the appointment.

4. Troops Killed Thirty Terrorists After Attack On Presidential Guard In Abuja – DHQ

The Defence Headquarters on Thursday disclosed that about thirty terrorists were killed and their hideout destroyed in the Bwari area of Abuja by troops.

The Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Bernard Onyeuko, made this known at the bi-weekly news conference on military operations on Thursday in Abuja held at the Defence Headquarters’ new conference room.

He said Troops of 7 Guards Battalion and 167 Special Force Battalion in conjunction with the air component of Operation WHIRL PUNCH carried out the operation between 24 and 26 July.

Apart from killing the terrorists, their enclaves and hideouts were also destroyed while several items were recovered.

The killed terrorists are part of those responsible for the ambush attack on the presidential guards brigade in the Bwari area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Sunday, Naija News reports.

5. Hanifa’s Killer: Court Sentences Abdulmalik, Hashim To Death By Hanging

A Kano State High Court presided over by Justice Usman Naabba has sentenced the proprietor of Noble kids college, Abdulmalik Muhammmad Tanko,38 and Hashimu Isyaku, 38 to death by hanging for kidnapping, and killing Hanifa Abubakar, a five-year-old pupil.

The convicts were convicted to 5 years each for conspiracy.

Last year, they conspired and kidnapped the deceased Hanifa Abubakar from Sheik Dahiru Bauchi Islamic foundation in Kano, and killed the innocent girl.

After killing the innocent girl, they then buried her in a shallow grave in Northwest Preparatory school, located at Kwanar Yan Ghana, in Nassarawa LGA, Kano.

The prosecution team led by Kano State Attorney General, Musa Abdullahi Lawan, in his effort to prove his case, called eight witnesses and tendered 14 exhibits.

6. What Buhari Told Me About Terrorists Threat To Kidnap Him – Gov El-Rufai

Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has disclosed his conversation with President Muhammadu Buhari over the daring threat from terrorists to abduct him.

El-Rufai said the president was worried about the situation and has assured him that he had given directives to security operatives to act swiftly to strike the terrorists before they could get to them first.

Naija News reports that a video had gone viral over the weekend showing terrorists threatening to kidnap the number one citizen of Nigeria and Governor El-Rufai.

The terrorists did not state clearly why they directed the threat to only President Buhari and the sitting governor of Kaduna. It was, however, clear that the assailants were responsible for the killing and abduction of scores of people onboard an Abuja-Kaduna train in March 2022.

In a conversation with Daily Trust, El-Rufai said the Nigerian leader was not aware of the viral video until he himself informed him.

El-Rufai said he and his family members have been warned by the terrorists, to be careful and know their boundaries.

Perplexed by the development, the governor said for the past five years he has been advocating for the bombing of terrorist camps wherever they are, saying it’s the only solution to the problem.

7. Alleged N80bn Fraud: Ex-Accountant-General, Ahmed Idris Granted Bail

The suspended Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, has been granted bail by a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Maitama.

The presiding judge, Justice Adeyemi Ajayi, granted the suspended AGF bail on liberal terms in a ruling delivered on Thursday, Naija News reports.

Justice Ajayi also adopted all the terms and conditions of the administrative bail granted to Idris by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Recall that Idris was arrested in Kano State after he failed to respond to invitations by the commission to answer questions over the allegation of N80 billion fraud.

He was however arraigned by the EFCC on a 14-count charge alongside Godfrey Olusegun Akindele and Mohammed Kudu Usman, and Gezawa Commodity Market and Exchange Limited.

In the ruling, the judge added that as part of the defendants’ conditions for bail, they must remain within the FCT, and must seek consent before travelling out.

Justice Adeyemi also ordered the defendants to sign an affidavit promising to follow all of their bail terms and must remain in Kuje correctional facility until they perfect the bail conditions.

8. Abuja No Longer Safe For Nnamdi Kanu – IPOB Tells FG

The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has again demanded the immediate release of its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The group argued that the safety of Kanu can’t be guaranteed in government care following the various threats of attacks which recently hit Abuja, the federal capital territory.

Naija News reports the IPOB leader has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja since he was repatriated from Kenya in 2021.

However, IPOB in a statement on Thursday through its spokesperson, Emma Powerful said with the closure of schools in Abuja and other surrounding states over the fear of impending attack, nothing must happen to Kanu in DSS custody.

To avoid any such scenario, IPOB recommended the immediate and unconditional release of Kanu.

9. 2023: Tinubu Appoints Former Edo Governor Head Of Campaign Think Tank

The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has appointed the former Governor of Edo State, Oserheimen Osunbor, as the head of a 65-man campaign think tank.

Naija News reports that the Director General of the Tinubu Campaign Organisation, Adebayo Shittu, made this known on Wednesday during the inauguration of the think thank in Abuja.

The former Minister of Communications said Osunbor would be assisted by two serving vice-chancellors, retired military generals and others.

Shittu said that the think tank will formulate the expectations of Nigerians from the Tinubu presidency into a workable action plan if the former Lagos State Governor emerge as the next President in 2023.

The former minister said that the action plan would seek to return to Nigerians a realistic hope that guarantees progressive change and transformative governance.

He expressed hope that once the right policies are evolved and implemented, the youths and all Nigerians would ensure and be assured of a peaceful, secure, collaborative progressive and prosperous Nigeria.

10. Breadmakers End Warning Strike, Increase Bread Price

The Premium Breadmakers Association of Nigeria (PBAN) has announced the suspension of its four-day warning strike.

Naija News recalls that the breadmakers began their nationwide warning strike on Thursday, July 21, 2022, due to the increasing prices of baking materials and other things in the country.

They also urged the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to review downwards the N154,000 penalty charged to bakeries on late renewal of certificates.

In a chat with The PUNCH on Tuesday, the PBAN President, Emmanuel Onuorah, said his members had resolved to increase the prices of bread in order to cushion the impact of the harsh operating environment.

He said despite the recent hike the bakers are still operating at a deficit, adding that members have been forced to adopt several survival strategies to remain in business.
