Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has stated that he has no plans to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to the crisis rocking the party.

Wike made this known to journalists on Friday at the Port Harcourt International Airport in the Rivers State capital, shortly after he returned from Spain.

The governor said he decided to keep quiet concerning the situation in the PDP because he has so much love for the opposition party.

Wike, however, stated that is time to let Nigerians know the truth about the crisis rocking the party.

He said: “I have decided to be quiet because PDP is a party I love so much.

“I have moved on to conclude my social contract with the people of Rivers. However, it is time to let Nigerians know the truth.

“I am not a slave and will not be a slave. I am freeborn of the country.

Naija News reports that Wike is aggrieved with the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, over his choice of Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, as his running mate.

A committee set up by the PDP to select Atiku’s running mate was said to have picked Wike as the party’s vice presidential candidate.

However, Atiku was believed to have ignored the recommendations of the committee Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, which chose Wike as the candidate for the VP position.

Governor Wike has been silent on the issue of the PDP after losing the presidential ticket of the party to the former vice president.
