Ex-President Buhari Reacts As Abuja Mosque Chief Imam Loses Mother

Nigerians have reacted to the impeachment threat issued by the Senators from opposition parties to President Muhammadu Buhari over the worsening insecurity in the nation.

Naija News reported that the lawmakers had threatened to commence impeachment proceedings against the President should he fail to address insecurity within six weeks.

The Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Philip Aduda, made this known on Wednesday while briefing reporters at the National Assembly in Abuja.

Before the briefing, Aduda had raised a point of order asking the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, to discuss the security situation in the country and the impeachment of President Buhari.

But Senator Lawan, who presided over the plenary, declined the request of the minority leader, saying the point of order raised fell flat on its face.

Angered by the action of the Senate President, lawmakers from the opposition parties staged a walkout from the Senate during plenary.

However, Nigerians have taken to the micro-blogging platform, Twitter to express their reactions to the impeachment threat issued to the President.

See some of the reactions below.

@olubunmi_J wrote: “So that’s the time frame? In six weeks ISWAP takes over the government? Interesting.

@Morris_Monye wrote: “Someone should tell Lawan that he is there to act as a check and balance to the Executive. Look at him protecting Buhari from impeachment threat.”

@Greatmax_main wrote: “He will not tackle insecurity in 6 months, they will not impeach him. Nothing will happen. They should rest.”

@Weike15 wrote: “Suddenly they find their voices. Where has PDP been since 2015? A few months to the end of this govt and the opposition realizes its duty?”

@FasinasiSamuel wrote: “What have they (PDP SENATORS) been waiting for since 2019 to impeach this failure in Aso rock? Now that he has a few months to go, they are protesting or ranting, yeye people..let him just finish in 2023 and go, no need to bring any chaos into the system.

@JoeIntl wrote: “6 weeks is too long. One day is enough. One day order at the toll gate there was a shootout. Why not face insecurity with a one-day order? You keep treating it with kids gloves.”
