Suspended Accountant-General, Ahmed Idris Granted Bail

The suspended Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, has been granted bail by a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Maitama.

The presiding judge, Justice Adeyemi Ajayi, granted the suspended AGF bail on liberal terms in a ruling delivered on Thursday, Naija News reports.

Justice Ajayi also adopted all the terms and conditions of the administrative bail granted to Idris by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Recall that Idris was arrested in Kano State after he failed to respond to invitations by the commission to answer questions over the allegation of N80 billion fraud.

He was however arraigned by the EFCC on a 14-count charge alongside Godfrey Olusegun Akindele and Mohammed Kudu Usman, and Gezawa Commodity Market and Exchange Limited.

In the ruling, the judge added that as part of the defendants’ conditions for bail, they must remain within the FCT, and must seek consent before travelling out.

Justice Adeyemi also ordered the defendants to sign an affidavit promising to follow all of their bail terms and must remain in Kuje correctional facility until they perfect the bail conditions.

The judge also directed the defendants to deposit their passports before the court and also undertake that they would not procure alternative passports during the pendency of their trial.
