About 20 persons have been reported dead following a bandit attack on Yan-Kukoki and Danbanda communities in Gummi Local  Government Area of Zamfara State.

Naija News learned that the terrorists invaded the communities on Wednesday morning and attacked the villagers in order to rustle cows.

According to TheCable, the terrorists during the attack shot at the residents who were running towards the bush while others that were running away from the attack fell into the stream.

One of the residents who escaped the attack told the news outlet that twenty bodies have been counted a day after the terror attack.

“People were running, and some fell into the stream, some were shot at. We didn’t know anything until we started seeing their bodies, and now we have counted 20,” the source said.

Residents who also spoke to the platform said they had suspected the movement of the bandits around the area about a week ago.

One of the village heads was said to have called the authorities at the local council to report the suspicious movement of the bandits.

The gunmen were said to have infiltrated the communities and carried out simultaneous attacks around 9am.

The bandits who were said to have used the Gummi-Sokoto road also operated in Danbanda, a village 3 kilometres away from Gummi town and kidnapped five people during the attack.

It was reported that the bandits also abducted 10 people on the Gummi-Gusau road and burnt some vehicles on this road.

It is understood that soldiers have been deployed to the area as of Thursday morning.
