The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has called on the general public to register and obtain their Permanent Voters Card (PVC), saying the card is the only key to electing competent leaders who will govern them.

This is just as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said that PVC’s do not expire, only those who wish to revalidate and make corrections pertaining to date of birth, name, and change of polling unit among others are expected to visit the centers.

The Emir of Kano also charged the general public to come out en mass to register at the ongoing voter’s registration before the July 31st deadline.

According to him, “voter registration is the only way for eligible voters to exercise their franchise by electing leaders that will move the country forward.”

Alhaji Bayero who disclosed this on Wednesday said that the INEC had earlier extended the deadline due to the high number of eligible voters that are yet to get their permanent voter’s cards.

According to him,the INEC Kano office has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that eligible voters have been registered across the forty-four local government areas and special centers.

He added that the possession of PVC “is the only way to show the strength of our large population during elections.”

Earlier, the Independent National Electoral Commission through its Kano spokesperson, Ahmad Adam Maulud said the agency was working assiduously in discharging its duties to ensure the success of the exercise.

He stated that Kano has emerged as one of the leading states in the ongoing revalidation and voter registration exercise nationwide.

The INEC Kano Office has established a new registration center at Sani Abacha indoor stadium which has witnessed a large turnout of people to revalidate and register.

He stated that the large turnout of people for the revalidation of the voter’s registration cards was a result of a massive sensitization campaign by INEC on the importance of registration.

He further disclosed that ”I believe with this large turnout, we are ahead of all the states in the federation.”

According to him,the statistics released by INEC revealed that over four hundred and fifty thousand fresh registrants have completed their registration in Kano.
