The Nigeria Police Force has assured residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja of total security and protection.

The assurance was given in a statement on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi.

He assured that the Police is leaving no stone unturned in securing and fortifying Abuja and its environs, adding that the Force is working with other security agencies in the country to protect the lives and property of the residents of the capital city.

Adejobi assured that they are all out to forestall any ugly incidence or occurrence in the city and the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has ordered the deployment of additional assets in the FCT.

In his words, “We are not leaving any stone unturned to fortify the Federal Capital Territory and its environs.

“The IGP has ordered for additional deployment of assets to Strategic areas of the FCT while the Force Intelligence Bureau has been charged on robust Intelligence gathering and information sharing amongst other agencies.”

“All residents of the FCT are urged to synergise and be on the same page with the Police and other security agencies in making sure that we forestall any ugly incidences in and around the FCT.”

The statement comes in the recent wake of security concerns in Abuja, the nation’s capital city and fears of a possible attack by terrorists.

Terrorists Attack Presidential Guards

On Sunday, gunmen terrorists attacked and injured some soldiers of the Guards Brigade who have the mandate to protect President Muhammadu Buhari.

The soldiers of the 7 Guards Battalion were on routine patrol along Kubwa – Bwari road when they ran into the ambush by the suspected terrorists in the nation’s capital city.

The attack came barely twenty-four hours after terrorists threatened to kidnap President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, Naija News reports.

The development is said to have caused panic among many residents of Abuja.

The terrorists were said to be headed to the Nigerian Law School in Bwari when they ran into the troops, leading to the exchange of gunfire in which three soldiers were injured.

Ministry Of Education Shuts Down Federal Government College

In a similar development, worried by the growing spate of insecurity in Abuja, the federal government ordered the closure of all Federal Government Colleges (FGCs) in Abuja due to fears of insecurity.

The students of the affected schools have also been ordered to be evacuated.

The Director of Press, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr Ben Goong confirmed the directive to newsmen in Abuja on Monday.

The management of the Federal Government College (FGC) Kwali, Abuja in compliance, ordered the evacuation of students from the school hostel.

The incident saw parents storm the school on Monday to evacuate their wards from the school situated at Sheda village, Abuja-Lokoja highway.
