The Bayana Bayana of South Africa on Saturday won the Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) for the first time.

Naija News reports that South Africa defeated Morocco 2-1 in the final in Morocco to clinch the trophy.

Hildah Magaia was the heroine of the match after her brace saw South Africa win the tournament for the first time after five attempts.

After a goalless first half dominated by the South Africans, Magaia broke the deadlock on 63 minutes giving the visitors the lead.

Eight minutes later, she doubled for Bayana Bayana with a composed finish. The second goal woke up the Moroccans as they sprung to action to reduce the tally.

Rosella Ayane drilled the ball into the bottom corner to pull one back for the Atlas Lionesses.

Meanwhile, Premier League side, Arsenal in the early hours of Sunday defeated thier opponent, Chelsea 4-0 in a pre-season friendly in Florida, Unites States of America.

Gabriel Jesus, who only joined Arsenal from Manchester City earlier this month, continued his impressive pre-season form with another goal during the encounter.

Jesus took his goal tally to four goals in three games for his new club in a clinical win for the Gunners in front of 63,811 fans at Orlando’s Camping World Stadium.

It was another encouraging performance for Mikel Arteta’s side, who took control of the game with two first-half goals after dominating the opening 45 minutes.
