9th National Assembly: List Of House Of Reps Members That Have Died

The 9th National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria comprising the House of Representatives and the Senate was inaugurated on 11 June 2019 and the assembly will run its course until 11 June 2023.

However, some of the federal lawmakers who started the journey have been lost to the cold hands of death.

Naija News understands of the three hundred and sixty members of the House, nine have kicked the bucket.

Two of them died in foreign hospitals, six died in local hospitals and one lost his life in a car accident.

Below is their list.

Jafaru Illiyasu

Jafaru Illiyasu represented Rijau/Magama federal constituency of Niger State during his lifetime. He was the first member of the current House of Representatives to kick the bucket. He died on 2nd December, 2019.

He passed away at the Maitama General Hospital in Abuja after a brief illness.

Muhammad Adamu Fagenwo

Fagenwo died on the 31st of December 2019 in Dubai where he was undergoing treatment for an undisclosed illness. He represented Garki/Babura federal constituency in Jigawa State.

Ossy Prestige

Prestige, a former caucus leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in the House, passed away on the 6th of February, 2021, while on treatment in Germany. He represented Aba North/Aba South in the lower chamber of the National Assembly until his demise.

Hassan Yuguda-Kila

Yuguda-Kila, the former Chairman House Committee on Customs, represented Gwaram Federal Constituency of Jigawa State. He died at the National Hospital in Abuja on the 4th of March, 2021, after a protracted illness.

Sulaiman Lere

Mr Lere died barely two months after he was sworn in as a member of the House of Representatives representing Lere Federal Constituency of Kaduna State.

Before he was sworn in, on 6th February, 2021 he fought a long legal battle to regain his mandate.

Unfortunately, he died on the 17th of April 2021.

Haruna Maitala

Maitala lost his life in a ghastly accident along Abuja-Keffi road alongside his son and two others on the 2nd of April, 2021.

The late lawmaker represented Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency of Plateau State.

Adebayo Omolafe

Mr Omolafe represented Akure North and South federal constituency of Ondo State. He reportedly died at Owo Federal Medical Centre in Ondo State.

It was reported that Omolafe slumped in his house and was rushed to the Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on the 16th of August, 2021.

Nse Ekpenyong

Mr Ekpenyong represented Oron Federal Constituency of Akwa-Ibom State. There was no report of Mr Ekpenyong’s illness but he suddenly died at the age of 58 on the 25th of April, 2022.

Jude Ide-Iden

Mr Ide-Iden represented Egor/Ikpoba Okha federal constituency of Edo State before his demise on the 1st of July, 2022. He had won his party’s ticket to seek re-election in the 2023 general elections before his demise.
