2023 Census: It Doesn’t Make Sense – Obi-Datti PCC Member Slams NPC Over Latest Update

The Katsina State National Commissioner of the National Population Commission, NPC, Engr. Bala Almu Banye, has said that any questions regarding religion and ethnicity are not captured on the ongoing trial census nationwide.

He further disclosed that respondents will only be asked questions about their State of origin and place of residence.

This was just as he also disclosed that the same rule will also apply during the real national population and housing census scheduled for next year April 2023.

He made the assertion on Thursday while speaking with pressmen, after an inspection of the trial census in Daura Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Engr. Banye however described religion and ethnicity as irrelevant for planning for national development.

He noted that “the decision to exclude the two issues from the questionnaire was taken by the National Council of States in 2006, saying “that decision has not been reversed”.
