Former Kaduna Central lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani has reacted to the killing of Fr. John Mark Chietnum, a Catholic priest in Kaduna State.

Naija News earlier reported that the decomposing body of the Catholic priest abducted in Kaduna State has been recovered, while the other cleric has regained freedom.

Recall that the two priests, Rev. Fr. John Mark Chietnum and Rev. Fr. Donatus Cleopas were abducted last week Friday, 15th July.

The two priests were kidnapped from the rectory of Christ the King Catholic Church, Yadin Garu in the Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna where they were on an assignment.

In a statement on Tuesday by the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, Rev. Fr Emmanuel Uchechukwu Okolo disclosed that while Chietnum was killed, Cleopas regained freedom by escaping from the kidnappers’ den.

Okolo added that the victim was allegedly killed the same day he was kidnapped.

Reacting in a post via his Twitter handle on Tuesday, Sani condemned the killing of the Catholic priest, describing the action as tragic and unfortunate.

The former lawmaker, however, expressed his condolences to his family and the Catholic community.

He wrote: “The cold-blooded murder of Rev fr John Mark Chietnum by his abductors in Kaduna is tragic and unfortunate. We live in the chains of kidnappings, killings and mourning. My condolences to his family and the Catholic community.
