PDP’s Wike In Closed-door Meeting With Top APC Chieftain

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike is in a closed-door meeting with the immediate-past Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, Naija News learnt.

Reports reaching Naija News at the moment revealed that Yari visited the PDP chieftain on Tuesday at his private residence in Port Harcourt.

Yari upon arrival at Wike’s residence, located in Rumuepriokom community in Obio/Akpor local government area of the State, went into a closed-door meeting with Rivers State governor.

2023: APC Confirms Date To Officially Unveil Shettima As Tinubu’s Running Mate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the date and time to officially unveil Senator Kashim Shettima as the party’s vice presidential candidate for the 2023 election.

The APC in a terse statement released on Tuesday morning noted that Shettima will be unveiled on Wednesday, 20th July by 11 am at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.

The statement reads: “The APC will formally unveil its Vice Presidential Candidate, Sen. Kashim Shettima to the Nigerian public on:

Lawan, Akpabio, Tambuwal, Others Risk Jail Terms For Contesting In More Than One Primary

The former Minister of Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio, Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, Sokoto State Governor and others that participated in more than one primary risk two years’ imprisonment under the Electoral Act, 2022.

Some politicians who had contested for the presidency under their party had lost out, only for them to bounce back on another ticket of their party.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Akwa Ibom State, Mike Igini, who quoted Section 115 (D) of the Electoral Act, 2022, while on Channels TV said the politicians risk jail terms.

Campaign Spokesperson Discloses Why Tinubu Shunned North-West And Picked Shettima As Running Mate

The Tinubu Campaign Organisation has said that religion or ethnicity was far from the calculations of All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu in picking former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima as his running mate.

The group, in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja by the TCO Director of Media and Communication, Bayo Onanuga said that clarification is coming on the eve of Shettima’s unveiling, which is slated for Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja by 11.00 am Wednesday.

He went on to state that Shettima was chosen because he is a tested politician and technocrat while also adding that If Tinubu wanted to cash in on ethnicity he would have chosen a running mate from the North West, which has the highest number of registered voters.

APC Defeat In Osun Is A Lesson For Us – Abdullahi Adamu

The Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, said the party’s defeat in the Osun state governorship election was a test from God.

In an interview with the BBC, Adamu said it is the duty of the members of the party to correct the things they are doing that are wrong in the management of the country’s political affairs ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

He said, “This shows that there is work ahead of us. We must see what we can do and change our style.”

He added that “we have to look at our heads and see what are the things we are doing in this journey that are right, what is wrong, what needs to be corrected so that we can find out what is the solution to this journey.”

However, the leader of the APC said that this fall does not mean that the party will fall in the 2023 general election.

According to him, the party will analyze the factors that made the party win the Osun state election so that it can win the next national election.

Osun: Adeleke Yet To Receive Certificate Of Return From INEC – Davido

Award-winning Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido on Tuesday revealed that the Osun State governor-elect, Ademola Adeleke is yet to receive the Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Davido’s uncle was the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the July 16th, gubernatorial election.

Recall that Adeleke won seventeen local government areas in the state, while the state Governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Gboyega Oyetola won the remaining thirteen local government areas in the state.

INEC had announced that Adeleke gathered 403,371 votes to defeat his closet rival, Oyetola who scored 375,027 votes.

Davido in a post on his Twitter account on Tuesday wondered why the electoral body had not presented his uncle with the certificate of return, 48 hours after he was declared the winner of the governorship election.

The singer asked INEC if it needed money for fuel to get to Osun State to present the certificate of return to the governor-elect.

2023: El-Rufai Angry With Tinubu Over VP Snub

The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai is not pleased with the decision of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, to pick former Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima as his running mate.

Sources that spoke with Daily Independent disclosed that the party leadership are trying to seal the grievances so that they won’t be exposed like the issues of the Peoples Democratic Party.

There are claims that the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike is against the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar for picking the governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate.

In the case of the APC, it is understood that El-Rufai was chosen as the potential running mate from the North-West, while Shettima was selected from the Northeast.

Tinubu, however, settled for Shettima against the desire of El-Rufai to emerge as APC vice presidential candidate.

It was gathered that Tinubu announced Shettima as his running mate without consulting governors elected on the platform of the ruling party.

Osun: Oyetola’s Lawyer Admitted I Was Robbed In 2018 – Adeleke

The Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, on Monday, disclosed that one of the lawyers that represented Gboyega Oyetola in 2018, Kolapo Alimi told him that he was robbed of his mandate.
Recall that Adeleke, who had won the governorship election in Osun State in 2018, was defeated by Oyetola after a re-run election was held in seven polling units across four council areas.

While Adeleke was declared the winner of the election in the tribunal, the Supreme Court struck out the tribunal ruling declaring Oyetola as the governor of Osun State.

Adeleke, while speaking on Channels TV on Monday, said Alimi told him that they rigged him out in 2018.

2023: Herdsmen Send Important Message To Atiku, Tinubu, Obi, Others

The Fulani socio-cultural group, Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria, (KACRAN), has vowed to help any presidential candidate whose policies and programmes include livestock development, to clinch power in the 2023 election.

A statement on Tuesday by KACRAN’s National President, Khalil Mohd Bello, disclosed that some politicians are neither mindful nor concerned with the vital role played by the livestock sector toward creating millions of jobs for youths.

KACRAN bragged about having millions of herders with PVCs at hand and are ready to cast their votes for a candidate that cares about their interests and general survival.

Khalil said their members always cast votes en bloc and would vote for any candidate and party that will fully consider them in policy formulation and implementation.

According to the association, despite herders’ significant contributions to the economic growth of the country and the provision of nutritional food to Nigerians, they were also ignored when it came to policy and program formulations.

Osun 2022: What Adeleke’s Victory Will Do For PDP – BoT Chair, Jibrin

The Board of Trustees Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Walid Jibrin, says the victory of Senator Ademola Adeleke in the just-concluded Osun governorship candidate would bring more wins for the party.

Jibrin in an interview with journalists in Abuja said Adeleke’s emergence as Osun governor-elect would enable the opposition party to win more states in the South West and across the country.

The PDP chieftain disclosed that the victory recorded by the PDP in the Osun election did not come to him as a surprise as he had earlier assured the governor-elect of winning the poll.

An associate of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, has revealed why the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai was not chosen as the party’s vice presidential candidate.

According to the associate, El-Rufai is one of those who sore the relation of President Muhammadu Buhari with the former governor of Lagos State.

He further stated that El-Rufai is known to attack Tinubu, hence he can not be the APC vice presidential candidate.

There had been claims that El-Rufai is not pleased with the decision of Tinubu to pick the former Governor of Borno State as his running mate.

The associate, who spoke with Daily Independent on the issue, said, “People have short memories in this country.

“How on earth can Asiwaju and el-Rufai pair together? Have you forgotten how he attacked Asiwaju and humiliated him in the past? How many people still membered in May 2019 when el-Rufai came to Lagos and said Tinubu should be retired from Lagos politics?

Rivers: Why We Chose Tonto Dikeh As Deputy Governorship Candidate – ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday revealed why the party chose Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh as its deputy governorship candidate in Rivers State.

The chairman of ADC in Rivers State, Leader Sampson noted that the actress was selected to encourage women to participate in politics.

Sampson said Tonto Dikeh’s selection as the party’s deputy governorship candidate was an added value to the party ahead of the 2023 races.

The party chairman disclosed that the actress had been a member of ADC for more than a year and has the quality to possess the position.

Osun 2022: Why I Give Credit To Buhari For My Victory – Adeleke

The Osun State Governor-elect, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has commended President Muhamadu Buhari for his victory in the just-concluded state governorship election.

In an interview on Channels Television on Monday, Adeleke said that the signing of the electoral act by the President played a key role in his emergence as the governor-elect.

Adeleke said that the new Electoral Act prevented rigging and other electoral malpractices in the just-concluded election.

He said: “If he (Buhari) didn’t sign the new Electoral Act, there would be rigging. I have to give credit to him. we are in the digital age. When the result was coming out, it was just GBAM. before they knew it, the results were out. No time for rigging. He did that to me in 2018 but this Electoral Act, it’s great!”

Speaking further, Adeleke applauded the President for congratulating him on his victory, adding that Buhari’s statement has shown that democracy is here to stay in the country.

Muslim-Muslim Ticket: Tinubu Meets With Pastor Adeboye

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has met with the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, over his decision to settle for a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Recall, Bola Tinubu announced the choice of former Borno State Governor, Senator Kashim Shettima, as his running mate after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at his Daura home in Katsina State.

According to ThisDay, Tinubu’s meeting with Adeboye took place on Sunday at the Redemption Camp.

The former Lagos State governor’s wife, Senator Oluremi, who is an assistant pastor with RCCG, alongside others, attended the meeting.

Caroline Danjuma Emerges Akwa Ibom State AAC Deputy Governorship Candidate

Nollywood actress, Caroline Hutchins Danjuma has emerged as the African Action Congress (AAC) deputy governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom State.

This comes a few weeks after her colleagues, Funke Akindele, Tonto Dikeh and Femi Branch were unveiled as deputy governorship candidates of various political parties.

Sharing the news on her Instagram page late on Monday, 18th July, Caroline said her purpose is to serve, honour in loyalty and truth to Akwa Ibom and Nigeria.

She wrote: “To serve and to honor in loyalty and in truth to Akwaibom and Nigeria . So help me God.”

Similarly, AAC in a statement said Caroline was nominated based on her exemplary life, love for humanity, leadership ability and commitment to the betterment of the state and Nigeria in general.

Osun: Trouble For Adeleke As Lawsuit Challenging PDP Primary May Harm Guber Victory

There are concerns in Ademola Adeleke’s campaign group over the lawsuit by his rival in the Peoples Democratic Party’s primary election, Dotun Babayemi, at the court of Appeal, Akure.

The PDP in Osun State had on March 8 2021, conducted two governorship primaries featuring Adeleke and Babayemi.

Babayemi was declared the winner of the primary election held at the Children and Women Development Center in Osogbo, while the primary that was held at the Osogbo City Stadium under the supervision of Deputy Governor of Bayelsa, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, produced Adeleke.

In order to be recognized as the PDP’s lawful governorship candidate, Babayemi subsequently made his way to the Federal High Court in Osogbo.

But in a ruling by Justice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel, the court upheld Adeleke as the Osun State PDP’s duly elected governorship candidate.

Dissatisfied with the ruling, Babayemi filed a suit at the Court of Appeal, Akure, challenging the judgment of the lower court and seeking to be declared as the PDP governorship candidate.
