Maikyau Replaces Akpata As NBA President

NBA Applauds INEC On Conduct Of Presidential, NASS Elections

Yakubu Maikyau, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) has emerged as the 31st President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

He replaces the outgoing President of the NBA, Olumide Akpata (SAN), Naija News reports.

In the NBA election held on Saturday, Maikyau scored a total of 22, 342 votes to defeat his closest rival, J. K. Gadzama, SAN, who polled 10, 842 votes out of a total of 34, 564 votes cast and Taidi Gunu got 1, 380 votes to place third.

Other national officers of the NBA that emerged are: Linda Bala as 1st Vice President of the association, Clement Ugo as 2nd Vice President and Amanda Demechi-Asagba as the 3rd Vice President.

Others are: Adesina Adegbite as General Secretary, Daniel Kip Ka-Ayli as Assistant General Secretary, Chinyere Obasi as National Welfare Secretary, Habeeb Lawal as National Publicity Secretary, Olawole Ajiboye as Assistant Publicity Secretary and Anze-Bishop Ladidi as the Treasurer.

20 lawyers were equally elected as members of the NBA General Council to represent the Western, Eastern and Northern zones.

Speaking after his victory, Maikyau called on those who contested and lost out for various positions to join hands with his team to move the association forward.

He commended the outgoing President of the NBA,  Akpata, for his efforts to reposition the association.

He equally implored the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to understudy the technology-driven electoral system of the NBA.
