Another Kuje Prison Escapee Nabbed In Ogun
One of the criminals that escaped from the Kuje Medium Security Centre has met his waterloo in Ogun State.
Recall that the Kuje correctional centre in Abuja was attacked last week Tuesday by terrorists suspected to be members of the dreaded Boko Haram/ISWAP group.
The terrorists are said to have escaped with their members while they also paved way for other criminals in the facility to escape.
Reports, however, reaching Naija News at the moment said one of the escapees, Yakubu AbdulMumuni has been arrested by the police at Ota, in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the Ogun State.
The 28-year-old criminal was reportedly arrested on Monday by operatives of the command.
Confirming the development in a statement released today, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun, Abimbola Oyeyemi, AbdulMumuni was apprehended following information received by policemen at Sango-Ota divisional headquarters that the convict was sighted somewhere around Sango Ota.
The DPO of the Sango-Ota division, SP Saleh Dahiru reportedly deployed his men to the area upon learning of the convict’s movement and the operatives were able to apprehend the criminal.
“He confessed to the police that he escaped from Kuje Correctional Center on the 5th of July 2022, when the Center was attacked by bandits.
“He stated further that he was convicted by Kogi State High Court for the offence of conspiracy and culpable homicide and sent to Kuje Correctional Centre,” Oyeyemi informed.
The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole had directed the State CIID to facilitate the transfer of the convict to the correctional centre without further delay.
