Shettima Reacts To Tinubu's Decision To Remove Fuel Subsidy

The National Unity Movement for Bola Ahmed Tinubu (NUMBAT) has advised Nigerians to shun religious consideration and choose competence and merit in electing the next President in 2023.

The Tinubu Support Group argued that religious and ethnic considerations should not be the factors to be considered while voting in 2023, asking Nigerians to embrace the Muslim-Muslim ticket.

According to the group, politics of religion and ethnicity portended grave danger to the future and unity of the country, adding that these sentiments would not make the country attain greatness.

The Director-General of the group, Hon Bamidele Faparusi, said this in a statement issued by the spokesman of the group, Joseph Undu, on Monday in Abuja.

NUMBAT stated that Tinubu is best positioned to protect the secular state of the country, asking Nigerians not to have any fear of religious domination and suppression.

The group, however, commended the choice of a former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, as running mate to the presidential candidate of the APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The statement reads: “Placing competence and merit above religious and ethnic considerations in choosing leaders that would steer the affairs of the nation in the right direction is what Nigerians should consider while voting in 2023.

“Even with a Muslim-Muslim ticket, without having any fear of religious domination and suppression, we are conscious of the secularity status of Nigeria, and Tinubu is best positioned to protect our secular state.

“NUMBAT, as an independent political support group, is working together with other patriotic citizens across religious and ethnic divides so as to assiduously promote national unity in diversity, national integration and cohesion despite our different religious inclinations, ethnic and political orientations.”

Naija News had reported that Tinubu announced Shettima as his running mate on Sunday and this confirmed the decision by the ruling party to field a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2023 presidential race.
