The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, has returned to Nigeria after his vacation in the United Kingdom.

Ayu traveled out of the country on the 21st of June, 2022, shortly after the main opposition party held its primaries.

There had been calls for his removal from office while on vacation, on the account that he can not come from the same region as the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Ayu, who arrived on Friday morning at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, appreciated the party’s Deputy National Chairman (North), Umar Damagun, for taking charge of the party’s leadership while he was on vacation.

The PDP National Chairman, in a statement released through his Special Assistant, Simon Imobo-Tswam, disclosed that he handed over to Damagun before jetting out.

The statement reads, “besides handing over the deputy chairman (North), Ayu also notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of his brief vacation and the temporary handover to Amb. Damagun in an acting capacity.

“Ayu salutes Amb. Damagun for running the party most admirably in his brief absence, and thanks the National Working Committee, as well as party faithful across the country for giving the deputy national chairman unqualified support while he held forth for him.”
