Sanwo-Olu, Akeredolu, Fayemi, Other APC Leaders Visit Wike

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, and other chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday paid a visit to Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State was among the APC leaders that visited the governor, with former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose also present.

Naija News reports that the APC leaders met with Wike at the private residence of the Rivers State governor in Port Harcourt.

2023: Peter Obi Officially Announces Running Mate

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has unveiled his running mate for the 2023 general election.

Naija News reports that Obi on Friday announced Senator Datti Baba Ahmed, a former presidential aspirant, as his running mate.

Speaking at the unveiling, Baba-Ahmed said he accepted to be Obi’s running mate because he believes in his capacity to make Nigeria live up to its billing.

He added he also trusts that Obi would not mismanage the nation’s wealth.

Atiku/PDP Crisis: Wike Suffering From Karma For Past Sins – Eze

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Eze Chukwumeka Eze says the current political travails of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike are a recompense for his past deeds.

Eze, in a personally signed statement made available to journalists in Port Harcourt on Friday, claimed Wike had at various times in the past encouraged and participated in obviously wrong political moves against others.

He, therefore, argued that Wike losing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket and then the chance to become the Vice Presidential candidate of the party for the 2023 elections is due to the effect of karma.

The APC chieftain submitted that Wike is getting paid back for his previous wrong actions and is simply reaping what he sowed.

Amosun’s Political Godson, Akinlade Joins PDP In Ogun

Former All Progressives Congress (APC) member, Adekunle Akinlade has joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State.

Naija News understands that Akinlade joined the opposition camp just a few days after parting way with the APC over alleged injustice among other issues.

The politician is a political godson to former Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun. Akinlade was received into the PDP fold on at the party’s secretariat along Okemosan, Abeokuta to meet with party leaders, Naija News understands.

Although Amosun is said to have pledged his allegiance to President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, in spite of the injustice meted out to his camp, most of his followers said they would go with Akinlade.

Okupe Reacts As Peter Obi Unveils Datti Baba-Ahmed As Running Mate

Former presidential media aide, Doyin Okupe has reacted to the emergence of Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed as the running mate to Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) for the 2023 presidential race.

Taking to his Twitter account on Friday evening, Okupe who is the Director-General of the Obi presidential campaign team said his eyes have seen what his mind conceived.

Expressing his joy further, Okupe who until his withdrawal from the position, the ‘placeholder’ running mate to Obi declared that Nigeria now stands a chance of having two young brilliant and descent leaders with unquestionable integrity.

He added in his statement that the time for the youths has come.

2023: Why Nigeria’s Democratic Process Is Threatened – NEF

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) says the country’s democratic process ahead of the 2023 general elections is threatened by religious and ethnic sentiments.

NEF Director of Publicity and Advocacy, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed stated this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

Baba-Ahmed argued that these sentiments would frustrate the capacity of the country to turn around its fortunes in 2023.

He accused politicians of desperately dividing Nigerians into two irreconcilable religious and ethnic divides in a bid to garner undeserved advantages during elections.

PDP National Chairman, Ayu Returns To Nigeria Amid Party Crisis

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, has returned to Nigeria after his vacation in the United Kingdom.

Ayu travelled out of the country on the 21st of June, 2022, shortly after the main opposition party held its primaries.

There had been calls for his removal from office while on vacation, on the account that he can not come from the same region as the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Ayu, who arrived on Friday morning at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, appreciated the party’s Deputy National Chairman (North), Umar Damagun, for taking charge of the party’s leadership while he was on vacation.

2023: Wike Can Not Be Vice Presidential Candidate To Anyone — Denedo

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Delta State, Tive Denedo on Friday said the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike can not be running mate to anyone ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Denedo while addressing newsmen at Oviri-Ogor, said the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar in his wisdom chose the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa as the party’s vice-presidential candidate.

The PDP chieftain who stated that Governor Wike can not be a subordinate to anyone pleaded with him not to dump the main opposition party.

He appreciated Wike for holding the party together while some people were jumping from one party to the other.

Denedo, however, pleaded with Wike to temper justice with mercy and help the party win the forthcoming presidential election.

Why I Was Absent At Governorship Debate – Adeleke

The Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Ademola Adeleke has revealed why he was absent from the governorship debate on Wednesday.

Adeleke while speaking on his absence from the debate attributed it to his busy campaign schedule.

Four governorship candidates in the state engaged in a debate organised by Arise TV on Wednesday.

The Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Governor Gboyega Oyetola, candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Goke Omigbodu, Akin Ogunbiyi fo the Accord Party and Yusuf Lasun of Labour Party participated in the debate.

Adeleke, however, failed to appear for the debate which lasted for two hours.

The PDP governorship candidate in a statement released on Thursday said he was in villages and local governments campaigning while the debate was ongoing.

2023: Wike’s Proposal To Atiku For Unity In PDP Revealed

The move by some stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party to substitute the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa for Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State as the party’s vice-presidential candidate has been rejected by Atiku Abubakar.

The stakeholders in the main opposition party had taken the step as a means of restoring unity in the party.

Governor Wike and his loyalists seem not in support of the presidential ambition of Atiku ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Recall that a committee given the responsibility of picking the party’s vice-presidential candidate picked Wike, but the former vice president ignored their recommendation and announced Okowa as his running mate.

The development has seen some governors and former governors in the party express their displeasure about the action of the party’s presidential candidate.

Wike on Thursday also ruled out the possibility of a one-on-one meeting with Atiku.

An associate of Atiku who spoke with Daily Independent on Thursday revealed that two proposals were forwarded to Atiku for peace to return to the party.

The source said the first forwarded to the former vice president is for the party’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu to resign as a presidential candidate and the party’s chairman can not come from the same region.

The associate further stated that the second proposal is for the party to substitute Wike for Okowa, he, however, said Atiku rejected the second option.

2023: We Will Get Justice – PDP Reacts As Court Sacks Delta Guber Candidate, Oborevwori

The Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said it will explore every option available to get justice for the sacking of its governorship candidate, Sheriff Oborevwori.

Naija News reports that a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, disqualified Sherrif Oborevwori as the Delta State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 governorship elections.

The ruling was delivered by Justice Taiwo Taiwo in a suit brought before the court by Olorogun David Edevbie challenging the emergence of Oborevwori, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly as the PDP candidate.

Reacting to the FHC ruling in a statement issued by PDP’s State Publicity Secretary in Delta, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza, the party urged its members to be calm, saying it will push the case further to get justice.

PDP said it had received the judgement of the federal high court but that the party would study the ruling and explore grounds for appeal.

Ekiti Guber Poll: Segun Oni Commences Legal Battle Against Victory Of Biodun Oyebanji

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) gubernatorial candidate Segun Oni, in the Ekiti State June 18 election, has filed a lawsuit to challenge the victory of All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate Biodun Oyebanji.

Recall the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oyebanji the winner of the election after he received 187,057 votes compared to Segun Oni’s 82,209 votes.

Speaking with reporters shortly after filing the suit on Thursday evening at the High Court premises in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital Oni said he was at the court to submit his petition in accordance with the law.

Oni said he’s taking the steps to defend the sanctity of the system and also challenging the outcome of the election because he believes he won it.

2023: APC State Chapter Gives Condition To Support Tinubu

Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State have disclosed that candidates of the party across all levels have a role to play in order to get their votes in the 2023 general elections.

They hinted that while their loyalty to the party is unwavering, there are expectations they also have from the candidates.

Specifically, the party members said the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu must commit to tackling the insecurity in the state before they can pledge their support.

Naija News reports their position was made known in a statement issued on Thursday by the APC Zonal Publicity Secretary, North West, Mallam Musa Mada.
