President Muhammadu Buhari is currently in an emergency National Security Council meeting with service chiefs following the attack on Kuje Prison in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Recall that Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists had on Tuesday night attacked the federal facility in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

The terrorists with the aid of explosive devices gained entrance into the facility and released a total of 879 inmates including about 70 Boko Haram members.

It is understood that the meeting would deliberate on the nation’s security challenges from the attack on the advance convoy of the President in Katsina State on Tuesday evening and the invasion of Kuje Prison.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, and some cabinet ministers are present at the meeting taking place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Others attending the security meeting include the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno (retd).

Also present are Ministers of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola; Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi; Defense, Maj. Gen. Bashir Magashi (rtd.); and Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya; and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao are also in attendance.

Also in attendance are the Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman; the Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS), Yusuf Bichi; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufai Abubakar.

Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo; is being represented at the meeting.

Recall that Buhari had on Wednesday visited the facility, where he expressed disappointment with the nation’s intelligence system.

After inspecting some of the points impacted by the attack, Buhari expressed disappointment with the intelligence system and its utilization.

He had said: “I am disappointed with the intelligence system. How can terrorists organize, have weapons, attack a security installation and get away with it?”
