Alleged Organ Harvesting: Protest Rocks Ekweremadus’ Trial In UK

A protest rocked the trial of the former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife at the Westminster Magistrate Court in London, the United Kingdom.

Naija News recalls that the London Metropolitan Police had arrested Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, for allegedly bringing a child to the UK for organ harvesting.

The couple, who were later charged and arraigned before Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court, was denied bail and remanded till July 7.

During the resumption of the trial at Westminster court, placards bearing captions condemning medical tourism by Nigerian leaders and the country’s poor health sector were displayed at the entrance of the court.

A Nigerian who identified himself as a member of the ‘Take It Back’ movement, was seen holding one of the placards.

However, the protester was later asked by some court officials to remove the placards from the entrance of the court.

One of the placards read, “UK is not Nigeria, Organ harvesters must be prosecuted.”

Another read, “After destroying our health care system, Nigerian leaders regularly travel abroad for medical help”
