Some daring terrorists reportedly attacked President Muhammadu Buhari’s convoy in his home state Katsina on Tuesday night.

The development was confirmed to newsmen by the president’s spokesman, Garba Shehu.

Though Shehu noted that his principal was not in the convoy at the time of the attack but security operatives and an advance team heading for Daura, Buhari’s hometown, ahead of Sallah, were attacked near Dutsinma in Katsina.

According to him, the terrorists were repelled by gallant presidential guards.

Shehu said: “The Presidency has described as sad and unwelcome, the shooting incident near Dutsinma, Katsina State, at the convoy of cars carrying the Advance Team of security guards, protocol and media officers ahead of the President, Muhammadu Buhari’s trip to Daura for Sallah.

“The attackers opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy.

“Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered. All the commissioner, staff and vehicles made it safely to Daura,” Shehu explained in a statement made available to newsmen.

It was, however, uncertain if any security personnel was killed during the attack.

Meanwhile, terrorists on Tuesday reportedly killed an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Aminu Umar Dayi.

Dayi, according to reports, was killed by terrorists in Katsina State on Tuesday night.

The deceased and his team members were reportedly ambushed while on a clearance operation in Zakka forest, Safana Local Government Area of the state.

The police personnel and his colleagues were said to have confronted the bandits numbering about 300 at Yauni village in the Zakka district of Safana.
