Boko Haram terrorists and fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) reportedly attacked a military helicopter in Borno State in the last week.

Naija News learnt that the terrorists suspected to be affiliates of Jama’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah Wa’l-Jihād fired shots at a military helicopter belonging to the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) on Thursday in an attempt to bomb the helicopter.

The MNJTF which combines troops formation from Benin, Cameroon, Chad, Niger, and Nigeria were reportedly on a mission when the terrorists attempted to bomb them off.

The security groups had their headquarters in N’Djamena and are tasked to bring an end to the Boko Haram insurgency in the axis.

The force is structured in four national sectors: Sector 1 (Cameroon) headquartered at Mora; Sector 2 (Chad) headquartered at Baga-Sola; Sector 3 (Nigeria) based in Baga; and Sector 4 (Niger), based in the town of Diffa.

Security reports made available on Sahara Reporters had it that the terrorist used sophisticated anti-aircraft rifles and GPMG during the attack on the helicopter last Thursday.

Naija News learn that the pilot and the co-pilot who were the only ones on board escaped the attack and landed the aircraft unhurt.

Despite the efforts of the Nigerian Army to end insurgency in the country, the Islamist insurgencies according to findings have killed nearly 350,000 people as of the end of 2020, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) confirmed in 2021.
