British Home Secretary, Priti Patel announced on Twitter the establishment of a new immigration agreement, this time with Nigeria.

Together, the two countries want to fight against illegal immigration, which “will increase the deportation of dangerous foreign criminals to make our streets & country safer. And take the fight to the criminal people smugglers together to tackle illegal migration.”, explained the Minister of the Interior.

Described as historic, this agreement should make it possible to promote “shared bilateral economic interests”.

The British government recently came under heavy criticism over its migration policy, establishing a controversial partnership with Rwanda to send asylum seekers to the African country while their cases are considered.

At the last minute, the departure of the first migrants for Kigali was finally canceled by a decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
