Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom on Thursday presented a staff of office to the fifth Paramount ruler of the Idoma Kingdom, HRM. Agaba-Idu Elaigwu Odogbo Obagaji John.

The governor while speaking during the coronation and presentation of staff of office ceremony at the Och’Idoma’s square in Otukpo, Otukpo Local Government Area of the State, expressed optimism that the reign of the new Och’Idoma would bring peace in all ramifications.

According to Ortom, the ascendant of pastors to the highest traditional stool in the state was a divine arrangement from God that is coming at the time Christianity was playing dominant roles in the lives of Benue people.

He said the ascendants of both the paramount rulers of Tiv, Prof. James Ayatse and that of the Idoma Kingdom who are pastors was not accidental and called on Benue citizens to rally round them to succeed.

“I want to state here that your emergence as a Father of the Idoma nation is an act of God, I urge the Idoma people to rally round you to succeed.

“I commend the selection committee for their good work, I want you to also work hand in hand with your subjects for a peaceful coexistence and development of both the Idom people and Benue at large,” the Governor advised.

Ortom however regretted the fact that his administration had lost two paramount rulers, Tor Tiv the IV and Och’Idoma the IV and prayed God to grant their souls eternal rest.

In his acceptance speech, the Och’Idoma, HRM. Agaba-Idu Elaigwu Odogbo Obagaji John, commended the selection committee, the state government and the people of Idoma Kingdom for finding him worthy of ruling over the Idoma nation.

He promised that fairness, equity, justice and peace would be his watchwords as he reign.

Also, HRM. Tor Tiv, Orchivirigh Prof. James Ayatse, commended the Idoma people as well as the state government for their support that led to coronation and presentation of Staff of office to the Och’Idoma the 5th, urged them to rally around him to succeed.
