The Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has condemned the ruling of Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, denying the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, bail.

Naija News reports that Justice Nyako adjourned the case of the pro-Biafra activist till November 14, 2022, pending the determination of the Appeal Court.

It was gathered that Nnamdi Kanu’s legal team would approach the Court of Appeal following his bail denial by the High Court.

The IPOB leader is being tried over alleged running an illegal group, treason, and jumping bail.

In a chat with The Punch on Tuesday, the National Vice-Chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Damian Okeke-Ogene, claimed that the President does not want to release Kanu and wants the insecurity in the South-East to continue.

Ogene added that Buhari’s recent utterances in the build-up to the court sitting greatly influenced the decision of the court to deny Kanu’s bail application.

“If you assess the President’s comments and utterances before today’s court sitting, you will understand that he was not interested in releasing the young man because he knows that doing so will bring happiness to the people of the South-East, who are longing for his release.

“Although, the court has adjourned the matter, but Buhari’s recent utterances in the build-up to the court sitting greatly influenced the decision of the court and the President knows that keeping Kanu means that the insecurity in the South-East will continue because the people see him as their idol and they want him released,” he said.
