Meet The Graduating Students Of The Resource Center For The Blind

Three students of the Resource For The Blind Center (RCB) have graduated after spending one year at the facility.

The graduation ceremony and price-giving day took place at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos on Sunday, Naija News reports.

One of the three graduating of Center is Mui’zzah Tajudeen. She is a 13-years old female with Retinal detachment/Myopia who was diagnosed with low vision at the age of 12.

Due to difficulties coping with print materials for learning, she joined the Center. Within one year of rehabilitation, Mui’zzah can read, write, operate a computer, do her laundry, and navigate her environment independently.

Upon completion of her training, the Center said she is well equipped with formal and informal skills that will help her adjust it an inclusive school to continue her secondary education.

In a chat with our correspondent, Mui’zzah appreciated the Center for giving her the training and support she needed to function in society. She also appealed to Nigerians not to discriminate against people living with disabilities.

Another graduate of the Center is Rukevwe Agbiwe. The 19 years old suffered from Morning glory syndrome at an early age, which rendered her a partially sighted individual.

She struggled to complete her secondary school at an inclusive school before her eyesight worsened. At the Center, she was rehabilitated and supported to undertake the recently concluded JAMB exams for admission into a university to study Mass Communication.

The only male graduate of the Resource For The Blind is Ahmad Olasehinde. He is a 21-year-old diagnosed with Cerebral malaria, which resulted in low vision and poor motor coordination. He obtained an SSCE certificate from a special school before admission to the Center.

Upon completing a one-year program, he is knowledgeable in the courses taught and is well-grounded with life coping skills to pursue his ambition.

Ahmad plans to pursue his ambitions by writing JAMB exams so he can gain admission into a tertiary institution to study Mass Communication.
