The Zamfara State Government has said that any bandit and kidnapper caught in the state will be sentenced to death.

Abdullahi Shinkafi, Special Adviser on Intergovernmental Affairs to Governor Bello Matawalle, made this known during an interview on Tuesday.

He disclosed that the State Assembly on Monday passed into law a bill which approves death penalty for all bandits, kidnappers, informants and other banditry-related issues.

Shinkafi added that the governor will sign the bill into law today at the Governor’s Office in Gusau, the state capital.

“The house of assembly, yesterday in Zamfara passed into law death penalty to kidnappers, informants and the contributors,” he said.

Speaking further, Shinkafi revealed that Governor Matawalle has issued a shoot on sight order on bandits and kidnappers in Mada town in Gusua Local Government Area where bandits are killing innocent citizens.

The issue of shoot on sight is only limited to Mada town in Gusua Local Government Area where there’s a rampage of banditry attacks on the innocent citizens of Zamfara state,” he said.

This development comes days after state government directed residents to arm themselves against bandits.

The government also directed the state Police Command to issue gun licences to all who qualify and are willing to obtain firearms to defend themselves.
