Reactions have trailed the resignation of Justice Tanko Muhammad as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Naija News had earlier reported that CJN Muhammad resigned from office on Sunday due to health issues.

According to Channels Television, there are plans to swear in the next most senior justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria.

This development is coming days after 14 justices of the Supreme Court wrote a letter to the CJN over the decrepit state of affairs in the court.

The judges also accused the CJN of going on foreign trips with his family while denying them the right to go on international training.

Some of the issues raised by the justices include — accommodation, vehicles, electricity tariff, supply of diesel, internet services to justices’ residences, training for justices and epileptic electricity supply to the court.

However, the CJN in a statement issued by his spokesman, Isa Ahuraka, said he did not want to join issues with the justices, adding that the circulation of the letter is akin to “dancing naked at the market square”.
