2023 Election: Official List Of House Of Representatives As Confirmed By INEC

The House of Representatives has expressed happiness over the Supreme Court judgement which struck out the suit seeking to challenge Section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act 2022.

Naija News earlier reported that the apex court had struck out the suit filed by the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami challenging Section 84(12) on the grounds that it violates the rights of political appointees.

In a judgment on Friday, the apex court ruled that President Buhari could not seek to fault its provisions of the electoral act after participating in the law-making by assenting to it.

A seven-member panel of the apex court, headed by Justice Musa Dattijo Mohammed, gave the unanimous judgment on Friday.

The Supreme Court described the suit as an abuse of the court process, adding that the request by Buhari to the National Assembly to delete the provision amounted to a constitutional violation.

In a chat with the reporters on Friday afternoon, the Spokesperson of the House, Hon. Benjamin Kalu stated that the judgment is heart-warming and a welcome development.

Kalu asserted that the ruling was not a victory for the House of Reps but a victory for the advancement of the country’s democracy and the rule of law.

He disclosed that members of the Green Chamber were not expecting anything less because the judges were erudite scholars.

“This judgement is unequivocally embracing and heart-warming, it isn’t a victory for the House of Reps but a victory for the advancement of our democracy and the rule of law.

“Let us celebrate this victory, the judiciary has added its own quota to the advancement of democracy, the Electoral Act, nation-building is a joint task,” he said.
