Gunmen Open Fire On Policemen, Lecturer In Fresh Benue Attack

No less than five people have lost their lives in attacks on two local government areas of Benue state.

According to Daily Trust, two policemen, a university lecturer, and two others were murdered In the attack.

The two policemen were killed in Yelewata of Guma LGA, a border town between Benue and Nasarawa states, while the others were murdered in Ukum LGA, a border community between Benue and Taraba states.

A villager told the publication through a phone call that the assailants carted away the guns of the police officers after murdering them.

A witness said the killings involved three friends listed as Fred Akaayar, a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication at the Federal University, Wukari in Taraba State; Aondo Ayange Apever, and Shiaondo Kachina.

The friends were reportedly having fun at a relaxation center when the shooters who rode on a motorcycle opened fire on them.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Benue Command, SP Catherine Anene, said she could only confirm the Guma incident.

“I received information about two policemen killed in an operation, but I am yet to receive details, please,” the PPRO stated in reply to a text message.
