JUST IN: EFCC Reportedly Grills Ex-Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu

The counsels to the former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice Nwanneka, have reacted to the allegation of organ harvesting levelled against their clients.

Naija News had earlier reported that Ekweremadu and his wife were arrested in the United Kingdom.

They were charged with conspiracy to facilitate the travel of a minor for alleged organ harvesting.

There were claims that the lawmaker and his wife brought a homeless boy to the UK before they were arrested and brought before Uxbridge Magistrate Court.

The counsel to Ekweremadu, Gavin Irwin, told the court that his client has led a blameless life as a public servant.

According to Daily Mail Irwin said, “There is no question this is a serious allegation. Mr Ekweremadu is a member of the senate in Nigeria. He has previously held an even more senior role as deputy president of the senate.

“He is a member of the bar in Nigeria. He is a principal in a law firm that bears his name.

“Those issues taken together go way beyond him being a person of good character…rather than he has led a blameless life as a public servant.”

The counsel to Ekweremadu’s wife, Antonia Gray noted that her client has never been involved in any alleged illegal trafficking of any young person.

Gray said, “She is a financial accountant with an unblemished record.”
