Former Anambra governor and presidential flag bearer on the platform of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has defended his three-day trip to Egypt  after he was heavily criticized for embarking on the journey.

Naija News earlier reported that the former Anambra State Governor departed Nigeria for Egypt for a three-day working visit.

In a tweet via his verified Twitter handle on Tuesday, Obi said that the visit to Egypt is part of his detailed study of comparable countries to Nigeria.

Obi had tweeted, “I just departed for Egypt on a 3-day visit as part of my detailed study of comparable countries to Nigeria. In Egypt, I am expected to understudy, among others, the Egyptian Power Sector, Education, Planning and Finance Sectors. –PO”

Reacting in a tweet on Tuesday, is AAC Presidential candidate is Omoyele Sowore and Political Activist, Deji Adeyanju mocked the former governor for travelling to Egypt to learn how to fix Education and Power problems in just three days.

Speaking about the development, Doyin Okupe, Director General of Peter Obi’s Campaign Organisation, stated that the 3-day tour was already planned before the presidential primaries for political parties began.

Okupe via his Facebook page on Wednesday insisted that Obi’s tour was a good one for the country’s energy sector.

He stated via his Facebook page : “Peter Obi’s trip has been scheduled previously, even before primaries. His mission principally is to see the plants installed by Siemens, which doubled the generating capacity of Egypt in 4years. To hold talks directly with the company on what will be feasible for Nigeria and at what cost?”
