Tinubu: Melaye Speaks On Muslim-Muslim Presidential Ticket Bid

A former lawmaker representing Kogi West senatorial district, Dino Melaye has reacted to the debate on the Muslim/Muslim presidential ticket being muted in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The two major political parties in the country have produced Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar respectively as their presidential candidates. Both of them are Muslims.

With Atiku searching for a Southern Christian as his running mate, reports emerged last Friday that the APC is looking to pair Tinubu with a strong Muslim northerner.

However, the Muslim-Muslim ticket bid has generated a barrage of reactions on and off social media as citizens express worries that it would be an unfair move considering the religious status of the country.

In an interview on Channels Television on Monday night, Melaye said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) believes in the unity and togetherness of the country, stressing that is the reason the party will be choosing a Southern Christain as Atiku’s running mate.

He stated that Atiku is a Muslim and his vice president would be a Christain, stating that the PDP cannot even imagine proposing a Muslim/Muslim ticket.

The former lawmaker stated the PDP will not behave like hypocrites talking Muslim-Muslim, adding that Tinubu wants to do in Nigeria what he couldn’t do in Lagos.

Melaye stated the PDP has seen the insinuation of a Muslim/Muslim ticket in Tinubu’s victory speech at the APC Presidential primaries last Wednesday.

He, however, claimed that the APC Presidential candidate would lose the 2023 general elections despite his antics and political manoeuvre.
