Crisis In Imo PDP As Party Members Suspend Chairman

Some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party are currently in a closed-door meeting at the headquarters of the party in Abuja.

The party leaders are meeting to come up with an acceptable running mate for the presidential candidate of the main opposition party, Atiku Abubakar.

Naija News had earlier reported that a committee led by former National Security Adviser, Aliyu Gusau suggested some names for the party to pick.

The names submitted to the party include governors, Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta) and Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom).

Those at the meeting which is being chaired by the Deputy National North Ambassador Umaru Damagun have in attendance Governors Samuel Ortom (Benue), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), and Bala Mohammed (Bauchi).

Others are former governors Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Liyel Imoke (Cross Rivers) Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo) and the minority leader of the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu, among others.

The National Chairman of the Party, Iyorchia Ayu, while addressing the leaders called on them to pick a running mate “between tomorrow and Friday.”

Ayu said, “The candidate (Atiku) wrote to us as the administrative arm of the party on the choice of his running mate.

“our presidential candidate this time has decided to carry everybody along unlike 2019 when he didn’t consult widely in his choice of running mate.”
