PDP Begs Oni To Dump SDP And Return To Party

The candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the June 18 2022 governorship election in Ekiti State, Segun Oni has opened up on the reason he dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking on Sunday during a debate organized for governorship candidates, Oni disclosed that he dumped the PDP because he dislikes cheating.

He added that he can’t pitch his tent with cheaters, hence the reason for his defection.

Naija News recalls shortly after losing the PDP governorship primary election in Ekiti, Oni announced he was quitting the party.

Oni had claimed that the PDP gubernatorial primary was manipulated to favour the eventual winner, Bisi Kolawole who is the anointed candidate of former Governor Ayo Fayose.

Subsequently, he joined the SDP and emerged as the party’s flagbearer for the 2022 governorship election.

Shedding more light on his decision, Oni explained during the debate on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti organized by Channels TV that his move wasn’t borne out of desperation to return to the Government House but because he doesn’t like cheating.

“It is not desperation,” Oni said.

“I do not like cheating. I don’t cheat and don’t like people to cheat. If I see a party that has no respect for its own rules, I see it as not my type of party.

“I contested the PDP primaries and it was supposed to be a secret ballot and the world saw how it became open to the extent that one man was being shown in every ballot. I detest cheating and don’t collaborate with cheats,” the 67-year-old added.

Naija News reports that the 2022 governorship election in Ekiti State is scheduled for Saturday, June 18.
